Why I love the writing style of Satyajit Ray

Introduction of Satyajit Ray: Satyajit Ray is a multi talented personality including director, screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, author, essayist, lyricist, magazine editor, composer, illustrator, calligrapher and what not. I felt so glad whenever I knew that he was born the same month in which I was also born and it is May. He was born on 2nd May in 1925 and died on 23rd April, 1992. His film 'Pather Panchali' positioned him as a major film director, earning him the first of many prizes throughout his career, concluding in the Lifetime Academy Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Oscars in 1992. He is also famous for The Apu trilogy, The music room, The big city, Charulata, the Goopy-Bagha trilogy etc. Satyajit Ray directed thirty-six films and his first film “Pather Panchali'' won eleven international prizes. Satyajit Ray is also famous for creating some interesting characters for his readers and those are Feluda the sleuth, Professor Shonku the scientist, Tarinikhuro the storyteller and Lalmohan Ganguly the novelist. The University of Oxford bestowed an honorary degree on him in 1978. In 1992, the government of India also bestowed upon him the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian accolade.

Short description about “Badshahi Angti: Though I did not explore all of his creations, I fell in love with his creation when I first watched “Badshahi Angti” on television directed by Sandip Ray. All the casts in that movie were my favourite actors including Paran Bandyopadhyay, Abir Chatterjee and others.

How the movie influenced me to turn into a book reader: Badshahi Angti is a detective story of Feluda series. By watching that movie, I felt like reading the Feluda series. I watched that movie when I was in class eight and believe me, I am not that much of a book reader at all. But the chemistry between Feluda aka Pradosh Chandra Mitra and Topshe aka Topesh Ranjan Mitra I loved the most. Apart from that, I also love the way the characters deliver their speech, the style of the conversations, the tone they usually use to speak which is not familiar in East Bengal.

Why I love Feluda series: As one part of my ancestors are from India so I can connect them somehow because it is in my genes. I did not go to Kolkata ever before in my life but I can feel a strong attraction with Kolkata. I believe one day I will go to Kolkata and explore each and everything of “The City of Joy” that Satyajit Ray described in his legendary creation. However, this move was a turning point to read the Feluda series. I was literally not used to myself except for academic books. I can read books by my own choice. Satyajit Ray made it possible in my life. Whenever I read Feluda it seems to me I am playing all of those characters, I am in the scenario as an audience, the characters are so alive. For that moment, I just think Satyajit Ray did not die, rather he has won each and every reader’s mind. Whoever came in touch with his amazing creations can relate to why I am telling this. Let me write more about Feluda. Because Feluda is not just a detective series. Another reason why I love Feluda is because of the combination of “The Trio” consists of Feluda, Topshe and my most favourite Lalmohan Ganguly as Jatayu who plays a fictional character in Feluda series. He writes crime thrillers and publishes his book twice a year.  The character “Lalmohan Ganguly '' always wants to be witnessed in every crime scenario that is why he often meets Feluda in his house and provides his green ambassador to make the transportation easy for them, to reach their crime destination on time. The first appearance of Jatayu has been shown in Sonar Kella, another remarkable detective story of Feluda series. Apart from the chemistry of this trio in Feluda, there are so many things to observe both for the readers and the audiences of the movies based on Feluda as well. First of all, Topshe who is the younger cousin brother of Feluda tells the story on his own. He explains all of the beautiful scenarios of each place they visited for the investigation. Mainly, Feluda is not only a detective series but also a travel friendly series. The way Satyajit Ray describes the scenario by reading his dialogues seems to me that I am in that scenario which I already mentioned before. Feluda is written mainly for the teenagers so that they can enrich the capability of critical thinking and have that enthusiasm in themselves for solving any problem by their own interest. But Feluda is such a series where age does not matter. Kids to old, everyone loves to read or to watch Feluda. It goes without saying that travel lovers and adventurous people would love the Feluda series. I am totally addicted to Feluda because of the legendary writer as well.
