Cat Chronicle : A Feline Tale Of meows and paws

There is a saying “A cat has nine lives”. Well the number of lives may vary from myth to myth. But cats

in our lives are omnipresent. From cartoon shows and animes every kids watched growing up like the silly

Tom from “Tom and Jerry”, grumpy Garfield from “Garfield”, ‘the fat evil cat turned into coachman’

Lucifer from “Cinderella”, the adorable 3 kitties from “The Aristocats”, the ever adorable Kitty and Mimi

from “Hello Kitty”, every household name the one and only robotic cat Doraemon from “Doraemon”,

Nekobasu- the cat bus from studio Ghibli’s “My neighbor Totoro”, the evil but nonetheless adorable

Meowth the number 52 from “Pokemon”, the mighty immortal cat Korin from “Dragon Ball Z”, games

like “Talking Tom and friends”, to social media where cat reaction pictures never grow old and cat

owners posting cat photos and videos remain constant ; there is cat. Cats with their adorable nature rule

the internet world. But who is to say reality is very different?

 Cats and breeds

Cats are feline creatures. They come in different shapes, colors and breeds. But no matter which color ,

shape or breed they are , one thing that remains absolute about them is that they remain adorable. Some of

the well known breeds are Persian cat, Ragdoll, British shorthair, bengal, siamese and many more.Though

mine  is a mixed breed. So there are cats of two or more breeds mixed. All nonetheless equally lovable.

Cats in ancient civilizations

From ancient times traces of cats can be found  in religion, cultures and beliefs. Like ancient Egypt

Greece or Japan where cats were revered as gods. Different civilizations in different times respected cats

as holy animals capable of bringing good luck and fortune. Many religions too considered cats as sacred

beings likely to hold divine powers.

How I got to have my cat

It was not a dramatic moment . My uncle used to have a bunch of stray cats that he raised . He gave them

food and shelter at his place . So one day when I went to his place ,I saw him cradling a kitten. He said

the kitten’s been there for almost 5 days . It’s mother most likely is not coming back to get it. So I begged

my parents and brought it along. Thinking back, I really made a wise decision that day! He is my happy

pill after all. And now that we got a cat at home, what it needed was a name. There started the war of

naming that ended up going on for days between me and my siblings. And after a lot of trial we ended up

giving her the name I came up with. She is called “Mini”. It’s a basic cat name I know but I wanted my

cat to have a cat -like name. Not Socrates or Elsa like my sisters suggested. She began her journey with

us sometime around 5 years ago and I love her more everyday.

Why everyone should have a cat

Everyone should have a cat as a pet if they can!Though there are too many reasons to point out , I could

try to list a few.
  • Cats are pretty clean as animals. So you don’t have a lot of cleaning ups to do after them
  • Cats are pretty smart . Just teaching them how to use the litter box is all the training they need to
keep as a pet, which they learn really fast.My cat even in the beginning stage after learning to use

the litter box didn’t  make a mess often.
  • They can be pretty quirky too. Though that is cute, make sure to find out if the behavior has any
meaning. My cat likes to scratch the floor when she is hungry. It’s not something most cats do, just

something my cat does to get her message across.
  • As adorable as these adorable creatures are, they are not too high maintenance  . You could give
them a fluffy bed and they could spend most of their day sleeping and lazing around on it! They

don’t need hard training and they learn their stuff easily.
  • Cats are just stress reducing balls of fluff.Having a cat is the key to reducing stress by more than
half. Who can resist cat cuddles and remain stressed?
  • You could do impromptu photo shoots with your adorable cat ! Nothing can be a better model than a
cat. This is a photo of my cat that I took  a few months ago.

  • After a really hectic day nothing beats playing little games with your cat.

Things to take note of as a cat owner
  • Even though cats are made to be loved , they are not fond of too much affection. My cat often likes
to ignore me. That’s when she wants to be left alone.
  • Even those furry beings get cold! They need a warm and cozy environment to grow up healthy!

  • Cats can be sensitive to strong smell and sound as they can get easily irritated. So they should be
kept away from these things.
  • Just because they are not a fan of too much affection doesn’t mean they don’t want their daily dose
of affection! They need it to keep living.
  • Cats are such majestic feline beasts one thing they absolutely have to hate should be dirt in their
space. So it must be made sure that their litter box is always clean and easily accessible. Their living

space should be kept tidy too.
  • One must be responsible enough before having a cat or any pet in this matter. For example - having
to feed them on time, giving them water and cleaning their litter box. Once I forgot to give my cat

food before going to school and as my mother was not home that day there was no one to give her

food at all, so when I came back in the evening I saw the foods on the table spilt around  and my cat

covered in them sitting in a corner. This incident taught me to be a bit more careful about my cat.

Cons of having a cat

There should be no cons in having a cat. But unfortunately everything has to have both pros

and cons. Some people are allergic to cat furs. They should stay away from cats for their

health. Cats shed fur too, so if people who are unable to take time to groom their cats should

stay away from cats too.Cat litter can be smelly and should be cleaned everyday. People who are

unable to take care of themselves should not take on the responsibility of a pet as they can’t talk and one

has to understand their demands to provide for their needs. So someone unable to even take care of

themselves is unlikely to be able to take care of  their cats or pets. Cats should be kept clean

regularly otherwise they can have fleas, which irritate them and make them sick. They should have

routine heath check ups. Cats might not be too expensive to have as pets but their veterinary can be

pretty expensive. So one must be aware of the cons before having a cat.
